Islands Energy Group launch sustainability fund

Islands Energy Group (IEG), parent company of Guernsey/Island/Isle of Man Energy, has launched a fund that will give awards of up to £5,000 to local environmental causes and initiatives.

The Together We Can Fund will support locally based charities, projects and initiatives that benefit the environment and the wider community.

The Fund follows the Group’s publication of its Sustainability Strategy – a roadmap to how the business aims to achieve Net Zero by 2050. Including a sustainability framework and new science-based carbon emissions reporting processes, the strategy outlines the steps the organisation is looking to take to deliver against ambitious targets in becoming a more sustainable and community-focused business.

Aligning with the Strategy’s target to positively impact the communities it works in, the Fund invites organisations (charities, community groups, schools, social enterprises and amateur sports clubs, among others) that are actively working to minimise their own or the community’s environmental impact to apply.

Chief Sustainability Officer Alex Herschel said: “Pillar Two in our Strategy is all about helping to protect our local environment and give back to our community, through meaningful contributions to initiatives that support our sustainability and Net Zero goals on each island. We recognise that there are people that are working hard to trailblaze sustainable change in their organisations or through research or nature related conservation work that just need that extra financial support to be able to achieve their ambitions. At Island Energy Group we want to help make change happen for the benefit of our local environment and community.  We can’t wait to hear about the amazing projects going on in our community.”

Funding up to £5,000 is available per application, with the company’s employee led Sustainability Working Group reviewing submissions and allocating the grants. Applications can be submitted throughout the year, with funding allocations taking place in March and October each year. The criteria for funding is that the proposed funding initiative should help to deliver one of the Group’s chosen UN Sustainable Development Goals and four key environmental pillars - Affordable and clean energy, Climate action, Healthy ecosystems, and Education, awareness and skills

Chief Executive Officer of IEG Jo Cox said: “Our commitment to Net Zero extends beyond our business’ services and operations. We want to play a key role in our islands’ energy transition and be a supportive partner for anyone in our communities working towards that same goal. The Together We Can Fund is one way we believe we can help achieve this.”
