Islands Energy Group and Sunamp are partnering to achieve a sustainable future

Islands Energy Group, parent company of Island Energy, Guernsey Energy and Isle of Man Energy has announced a partnership with thermal storage manufacturer Sunamp as part of its ongoing commitment to bring new energy saving products and services to Jersey, Guernsey and the Isle of Man.

Sunamp’s Thermino® heat batteries are up to four times smaller than the conventional hot water cylinders they replace and can be installed in homes and businesses to store heat from low-carbon energy sources, such as solar panels and heat pumps, which can then be used to provide mains-pressure hot water when needed. The heat battery’s ultra-low heat loss helps to reduce energy consumption and improves energy efficiency, delivering on Islands Energy Group’s sustainability strategy with products that help their customers achieve a sustainable future.

It is available to Jersey customers first during November and will be available to customers in Guernsey and the Isle of Man in the New Year.

Jo Cox, CEO at Islands Energy Group, said: “We are excited to be partnering with Sunamp to provide our customers with innovative new products and services for homes and businesses. This partnership is part of our vision to provide energy management solutions that let our customers control what they want, when they want it, all while reducing their carbon footprint.”

“As the Sunamp unit is up to 4 times smaller than a traditional hot water cylinder it saves space and can be installed by IEG, or by your own installer. With lower heat loss increasing its efficiency and an A + energy rating it delivers instant hot water at a high pressure with reduced costs.”

Trevor Cross, UK Sales Director at Sunamp said: “We’re thrilled to be bringing our products to Jersey, Guernsey and the Isle of Man with Islands Energy Group. Sunamp technology is becoming a natural choice, especially for homes where space is too tight for a bulky hot water cylinder, and our heat batteries are already installed in over 25,000 homes. It makes it easy and affordable to transition to renewable energy and allows homeowners and landlords to spread the cost of switching from fossil fuels to heat pumps and solar PV to suit their budget.”

Thermino heat batteries use Sunamp’s high performance Plentigrade® phase change material (PCM) which absorbs and releases thermal energy during a melting and freezing process in a similar way to the gel in a pocket handwarmer. Plentigrade P58 does not contain any toxic materials and there are no end-of-life disposal issues. Sunamp is the only heat battery manufacturer in the world to be awarded A Grade RAL Certification, the independent quality mark and global standard for PCM products. Testing has confirmed performance with no noticeable degradation of the Plentigrade material to over 40,000 cycles, comparable to over 50 years continuous use.
