Another step forward in our Net Zero journey
Islands Energy Group (IEG) is pleased to announce that it has achieved the Achilles Carbon Reduce certification. This is the UK’s only accredited greenhouse gas certification scheme that independently audits companies’ data to verify that their carbon reporting figures are accurate and complete, and they have set science-based targets linked to a plan on how they intend to achieve their carbon reduction goals.*
Islands Energy Group set out its sustainability strategy in 2023 with a clear view that ‘you can’t manage what you can’t measure’ and this certification is a step forward in helping us to validate our progress towards achieving our target of being a Net Zero company by 2050.
At IEG one of our core values is that we operate in a safe and responsible way within everything we do. Alex Herschel, our Chief Sustainability Officer said: "One of our primary goals as an energy company is to have a clear plan on how we shall measure, manage and minimise our climate change impact from our operational activities and gas products in Guernsey, Jersey and the Isle of Man, which this certification shows we take very seriously.”
"It is also a key step towards delivering against our purpose to ‘provide dependable energy for future generations’ by supporting the islands as they transition to Net Zero by exploring ways to decarbonise the energy we provide to our customers, for example by switching to greener gases."
IEG's greenhouse gas emissions for 2023 were measured resulting from its operational activities, purchased energy, and selected impacts from its value chain activities, including business travel and freight.

*Carbon Reduce achieves this by auditing against compliance with the Greenhouse Gas Reporting Protocol and ISO14064, both of which are globally recognised carbon reporting standards, and the UK’s Streamlined Energy Carbon Reporting (SECR) standard.
